Don’t Try to Force It
Pulling, twisting, or prying at a broken key fragment risks pushing it deeper into the cylinder or damaging the internal tumblers, turning a simple extraction into a full cylinder replacement.
First: Is the Car Running or Off?
If the engine is still running, get the vehicle safely stopped first. If it’s already off, leave it in that position and don’t attempt to restart it.
What You Can Try Before Calling Anyone
If a small piece of the key is visible and protruding, a very light, steady grip with needle-nose tweezers can sometimes work. Avoid superglue-and-extract tricks you might see online, they frequently glue the fragment permanently in place, turning a simple job into an expensive one.

When It’s Time to Call a Locksmith
